These festive gatherings are a perfect introduction to the Great Books.
What could be more fun that discussing a great book? Discussing a great book and watching the movie! These informal gatherings draw members from various Great Books Club groups (and those new to the Great Book Foundation!) We watch and discuss a classic movie and after pre-reading the book. It is a fun way to get your feet wet in the Great Books Shared Inquiry method of discussion, meet interesting and friendly people, or catch up with old friends. This is an alternative, fun way for a shared inquiry discussion and is held three times a year. As usual, a selection is read beforehand. That day a movie adaptation is viewed followed by a leisurely lunch, and the discussion of both the book and movie. There are always fascinating contrasts.
Our next event will be Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Queen Anne Lutheran Church on Queen Anne Hill in Seattle. The book and movie will be “A Man for All Seasons” and we will be discussing Ambition, Conscience, Family, Loyalty. Additionally questions about how can ambition affect friendship and honor? How much loyalty should we give to a government? How do we reconcile our conscience and the welfare of our family?
