Welcome, we’d love to have you join us at our upcoming event which will include discussion, lunch, and a movie, in a beautiful location overlooking Seattle’s waterfront!
Northwest Great Books has been around for decades and our mission statement is: To involve people of all ages and walks of life in interpretive discussions of books, plays or essays that evoke critical and persuasive thoughts and dialogue in a safe and productive environment. Come on, give us a shot, we’ve lots of 5 star reviews and testimonials.
Here’s what you can expect, everyone will read My Abandonment prior to our gathering. The following will be our schedule:
Movie 10:00 am-12:00 pm
Lunch 12:00 pm-12:30 pm
Discussion 12:30 pm -2:00 pm
A delicious lunch is provided from Panera’s. Not to worry, there will be vegetarian options that we guarantee will be tastier than the salal and greens Caroline and her father ate!
My Abandonment by Peter Rock and motion picture Leave No Trace are about a father and his daughter who are content living off the grid in a forest preserve near Portland, Oregon until authorities are tipped off and they begin an erratic journey for another place to call their own. Ideas that we will explore include:
Who knows what’s best for children, the parents, the state, the child?
How does living outside societal norms effect children’s welfare?
What makes a good parent? How do we view the homeless?
All are welcome and encouraged to join.
We will use the Shared Inquiry method of cooperative discussion.
