The Joy Luck Club: Book and a Movie Event~Presented by Northwest Great Books (SOLD OUT)

Welcome and please join us for our upcoming event; a discussion of the book, The Joy Luck Club, a 1989 novel by Amy Tan, the 1993 film screening, and a tasty lunch.

Northwest Great Books has been around for decades and our mission statement is: To involve people of all ages and walks of life in interpretive discussions of books, plays or essays that evoke critical and persuasive thoughts and dialogue in a safe and productive environment. Come on, give us a shot, we’ve lots of 5 star reviews and testimonials.

Here’s what you can expect, everyone will read The Joy Luck Club, by Amy Tan prior to our gathering. The following will be our schedule:

Movie 10:00 am-12:30 pm

Lunch 12:30 pm-1:00 (A delicious lunch is provided!)

Discussion 1:00 pm -2:30 pm

Ideas that we will explore include:

  • Family Ties
  • Identity
  • Immigrant Experience
  • Mothe-daughter relationships
  • Cultural and generational relationships
  • Contrasting the traditional Chinese values and the pursuit of the American Dream

All are welcome and encouraged to join. We will use the Shared Inquiry method of cooperative discussion. Mark your calendars for this one.
